Bat Eyes is a Belgian indie rock band from Ghent consisting of Koen Wijnant (vocals, guitar), Luna De Bruyne (vocals, bass guitar), Tomas Serrien (drums) and Birger Ameys (guitar).
Bat Eyes was formed in 2019. Frontman Koen Wijnant (Arquettes) had recorded some demos and wanted to make a full album for which he enlisted the help of friends. In March 2020, they released their debut single 'Loria'. That same year, the line-up was expanded from three to four with the arrival of Birger Ameys. The single 'You're the Breeze' followed in May. Wijnant had already written the song when he was still playing in Arquettes, but he felt it did not fit with the music that band made.
In 2021, Bat Eyes released a self-titled EP. All songs from the ep were released as singles; after 'Loria', 'Saving Up', 'Belly' and 'I Don't Mind' followed consecutively in 2021.
Tom Berth of Dancing Bears heard in the first two singles the sound of 90s bands like Pinback, The Lemonheads and Sebadoh.Marc Alenus of daMusic shared that opinion and further compared the sound to that of indie rock bands like Guided by Voices, Pavement and Sparklehorse. The review of the self-titled ep on Snoozecontrol placed the band in the corner of power pop.
