The band formed in 1986 around ex-Canal Terror member "Tommy" Koeppe initially only to record a contribution to the sampler Kulturschockattacke 2.
The following year they participated in the sampler Beethovens Rache and released, with new bassist Frank "KutA" Glienke, their 89ER LP debut Keine Träume, which was even discussed in the BRAVO.
In August 1992, the band split up. A big farewell concert took place in Bonn's Biskuithalle, where the bands Slime, Hass, WIZO and Dirty Deeds '79 played alongside Molotow Soda. A recording of their performance was released the following year under the title Das Allerletzte live as LP and CD on the Cologne label Day-Glo.
In 1998 the reunion with Tommy, Dominik, Volker and Tommes took place. Tommes was soon replaced by Hille. This was followed by more than 100 well-attended concerts in Germany and Switzerland. Molotow Soda again decided to make sound recordings, where their last LP/CD Eigenurin was made and released by Knock Out Records.
After a three-year break, Molotov Soda performed live again in November 2004. Since the beginning of 2015, the band is back on ice.
