Aldo Baerten is Flute-solo in the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra conducted by Elin Cham, Edo de Waart and Philippe Herreweghe.
In 2013 he was Professor at the Conservatory (University) of Sydney (Australia)
In 2015/16 he taught at the Musikhochschule Münster (Germany) and from 2016 at the Musikhochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (Germany).
From April 2018, he teaches at the Musikhochschule Köln / Aachen as well as at the Trinity Laban Conservatory in London from November 2018.
He is a professor at the Royal Conservatory (Haute Ecole de la Musique) in Antwerp as well as at the Conservatory (Hogeschool der Kunsten) in Utrecht, and he gives master classes on 4 continents, among others at the Royal Academy in London.
He has been invited to the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Arctic Philharmonic, European Union Opera (G. Roshdentvensky), Hallé Orchestra (UK) and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
Its summer academy, the International Flutes Seminar Bruges, welcomes students from all over the world. Www.ifsb.be
During his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, with Prof. Peter-Lukas Graf at the Basel Conservatory where he obtained the Soloist Diploma, and with Philippe Boucly (R.Strauss-Konservatorium München), he won prizes at the Maria Canals (Barcelona), Vienna, Axion Classics, Young Talents, Quantz competitions and National Instruments.
He also received the Alex de Vries, SABAM, Pelemans and Caecilia Prizes (Belgian Music Press Prize).
He has performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras such as the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester, RSO Basel, Orchester National de Belgique, Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, Orchester Royal Philharmonique des Flandres, Kansas City Symphony, Samai Sinfonietta… under the direction of D. Stern, V. Czarniecki, P. Rundel, G. Octors, Z. Nagy, T. Yuasa, S. Byess, E. Aadland, S. Mäkkilä, R.Wilson ...
Aldo Baerten is a regular guest at festivals in Europe, Mexico, Russia and the United States, along with J. van Dam, Martin Helmchen, Severin Von Eckardstein, F. Orval, W. Boeykens, J.Cl. Van den Eynden, M. Lethiec, Storioni Trio, Martin Spangenberg, Hervé Joulain, Niek de Groot, Michel Strauss, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Kandinsky-trio, Jana Bouskova, Anneleen Lenaerts, Dietrich Henschel, Matthias Buchholz, Jef Neve… ..
He has recorded for the Pentatone, Cypres, Phaedra, ECM, Royale Belge and Beriato labels.
His recording of F. Schubert's Trockne Blumen Variations with German pianist Martin Helmchen was nominated for Best Recording of the Year by BBC Music Magazine in 2010.
From 1989 to 93, Aldo Baerten was Flute-Solo of the European Union Orchestra, where he performed under the direction of C. Abbado, B. Haitink, V. Ashkenazy, V. Neumann, J. Conlon and J Tate.
He was also chosen as Solo Flute of the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra (Sir G. Solti) and of the World Orchestra of Young Musicals.
He has been Flute-Solo in the Belgian Chamber Orchestra, as well as in the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig.
Aldo Baerten is a regular member of the jury for Axion Classics, Lyons, Flutonicon International Flute Competition, NFA Young Concert Artists, Biwako Japan and Yamaha-Music Foundation.
Several of his former students hold positions in orchestras and conservatories in Belgium as well as abroad.
