Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
There are at least four bands called Uran:
1. A swedish ebm-band with female singer Vloona.
2. A streetpunk band from Poland.
3. A japanese popsinger on game soundtracks.
4. A swedish experimental rock/electronic band.

URAN (1) In 1996, founders Jonas Gabrielsson and Jah Rathburn were looking for a singer, since they wanted to start a new band together. They had already been playing in the same EBM band, which eventually split up, and so the two ex-members decided to work on a new project.

Some people came for the audition, but Gabrielsson and Rathburn didn't seem to find what they were looking for. As they had almost given up, a common girlfriend of theirs rode her bike singing, slightly drunk, on their way to a party. Gabrielsson and Rathburn knew they had found their singer. In 1996, Vlona Koorbash joined the band, which at first was named “URAN 235”.

The first years the music showed out to be a strange mixture of gothic, EBM and industrial. URAN 235 made plenty of live gigs and released a demo cd, which was called "A Puppet No Good To Play With" in 1998.

However, shortly after the release, the band took a 7 year break. The members moved to different countries; Vlona had a child, got married and was playing in a nu-rockband in Germany, Jah worked as a sound technician and third member, Jonas, was studying abroad.

In October 2004, Vlona moved back to Sweden with her family. Jah contacted all band members and suggested they'd start making music together again. Because of his working situation, Jonas decided to leave the band. In less than eight months, Vlona and Jah had a brand new album called "Tales from a tub" finished under the new band name "URAN" – and the rest is yet to come...

URAN (2) is a streetpunk band from Białystok, Poland formed in 2001.
