Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
The musical project Valkenrag has been evolving for a long time. Initially, it was only an idea in the minds of two musicians from Tomaszow who earlier played in "Slaughterhouse". In 2006, Jorgh and Lorghat decided to transform thought into action. Thus, in 2008, Valkenrag recorded their first demo entitled "Nordwind," which included such songs as "Hel's revenge", "North wind", "Once Captured Priest" and "Redemtpion time." Thematically, according to the original assumption, the composition was strongly associated with both pagan Slavs, the Scandinavian mythology and the negative outlook on the processes of Christianization in early medieval Europe. After a long time the band in cooperation with film group D & V made their first video for the song "Once Captured Priest" which became a turning point in Valkenrag's activity. In 2010, Minister (bass) and Cymer (guitar) joined the lineup, and resultedly the side project Valkenrag became a fully functioning band.
In mid-2011 the co-founder of the group, Jorgh, left the band. This, however, did not discourage Lorghat from creating of a new material. Soon the band was joined by a new drummer Koto and they recorded the tracks for the new EP "Valkenrag". Before the completion of the recording session, Cymer (Symbolical, Infernal Death) had left the band, and soon he was replaced by Typhus. Although the paths were put down in fairly harsh, almost black metal like environment, the EP obtained very positive reviews and it heralded the forthcoming of a long-playing album "Twilight of blood and flesh." Lorghat and Typhus recorded the guitar tracks and vocals, the bass was recorded by a friend of the band Jakub "Vincent" Wincencjusz (Death Denied) and the drums were put down by Peter "Lestath" Leszczynski (ex -Sammath Naur), who also dealt with the mixing and mastering the album at Redsun STUDIO. In the meantime, the band was joined by Ulfar (bass) and drummer Shevcoo (ex-Pandemonium). The band and Blank Studio film group made a video to the track "Waves of the coming future”. Autumn passed giving way to winter. Valkenrag played a series of very well-received shows till the end of 2013. The band spent the spring period of 2014 on solid preparations for touring the country planned for the autumn.
In October Valkenrag together with "Strain" moved to conquer Polish towns and cities where they were very well-received. In 2014, the group shared the stage with bands such as Taake, Noctem, Valkyrja, Unearthly and representatives of native metal scene Thy Disease, Devilish Impressions, Saltus, North and many others.
With the advent of 2015 the band completed mixing and mastering of the material and they focused on refining the graphic side of "Twilight of blood and flesh," as well as subsequent concerts under the auspices of the Heart of Rock Agency , which resulted in performances in various Polish cities along with Negura Bunget and Heathen Foray. In September of the same year the long awaited release finally saw the light of day. The debut LP was released by Art of the Night Productions and shortly after the band performed with Skallmold, Cruachan, Skyforger and Ensiferum. At the beginning of November Valkenrag presented their second video, for the song 'Halls of the Brave' and started a promotional tour for the LP. Together with Quo Vadis the band raided many Polish cities but as the tour was coming to an end, at the beginning of 2016, Shevcoo left the band. This unexpected turn of events forced Valkenrag to cancel the remaining dates.
After a month of searching Robert (known for his drum work in Hellspawn) joined the band. A few months of rehearsals later Valkenrag resumed its live performances by playing shows in the Czech Republic and during summer festivals in Lithuania ( Kilkim Zaibu), Latvia (Zobens un Lemmes ) and Poland (Dark Fest). During that time the band performed with such artists as Rotting Christ or Venom. Soon the band returned to work on their second album and started recordings in the begging of 2018. The band was on tour with Australian “Claim the throne” at the end of June and when touring was over Valkenrag was able to finish their longplay “Chasing the gods”. The band was on tour once again in early Autumn till December of 2018 with Welicoruss. They parted ways with Typhus (lead guitar). The band finish the tour with session guitarist.
As 2019 was on Valkenrag decided to reform itself into trio and session guitarist who will replace Typhus on live shows. Also “Chasing the gods” shall be released by their own at the end of March.

But that is another story.
