Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon flag icon
Théodore Dubois, born in Rosnay in 1837 and died in Paris in 1924, was an organist, composer, harmony teacher and director of the Paris conservatory.
His work is considerable: more than 500 works listed in the catalog of Christine Collette-Kléo (Paul-Valéry University, Montpellier).
He was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor on August 4, 1883, then officer and finally commander by decree of April 9, 1903.
His music, partly produced at a time when it already seemed to come from a bygone century, has found renewed interest, thanks to the Palazzetto Bru Zane (Center for French Romantic Music) in Venice.
Nevertheless, his oratorio entitled The Seven Words of Christ on the Cross, has always been sung, in the United States and Quebec, until today, especially during Holy Week.
