Xystus was formed in 1999 by Ivo van Dijk and Bas Dolmans.
After releasing 3 albums, a DVD, doing a lot of shows and a tour with Epica, the band came to an end, but the name Xystus still lives on as the musical project by drummer/composer and co-founder Ivo van Dijk.
