Paul Elliott ( Macclefield , Cheshire , 19 of March of 1950 ) is a British tenor, specializing in the interpretation of early music and baroque .
As a child, he was part of the choir of St. Paul's Cathedral in London . He received his first musical instruction there, and later studied with David Johnson and Peter Pears . He graduated from Oxford University in Arts and Music. His professional career began in 1972. Since then he has sung, both as a soloist and a member of the choir, in groups such as Deller Consort , Pro Cantione Antiqua , The Medieval Ensemble of London , the Academy of Ancient Music or the Theater of Voices . As a soloist, he has collaborated with directors such as John Eliot Gardiner orChristopher Hogwood .
He specializes in repertoire of the s. XVI to the s. XVIII although he also sings works by romantic and contemporary authors, such as Franz Schubert , Ralph Vaughan Williams , Steve Reich or Arvo Pärt . He was a founding member of the London Early Music Group and the Hilliard Ensemble . He has also participated in numerous recordings, some as prestigious as those of the Magnificat de Bach (directed by Simon Preston ) or The Messiah of Haendel , directed by Christopher Hogwood .
He is currently a professor of historical singing at the University of Indiana . Since 2009 he is President of the Institute of Ancient Music of said university.
