Roberto Maida (Francica, Vibo Valentia, Italy March 1908 - Buenos Aires, Argentina, 30 March 1993) whose real name was Domenico Maida was a singer and songwriter dedicated to the genre of tango. He was brought to Argentina by his family in 1909 and lived with her in the Balvanera neighborhood of the city of Buenos Aires, near the famous Spinetto Marketthat at that time was fully operational. From a very young age he worked caring for the horses that pulled the cars and flat, while their drivers ate at the inns near the market. It was precisely in the funds of one of them, the Damato restaurant, Matheu and Victoria that Maida began to sing in the meetings that the sons of the owner and the bar boys put together, where tango sessions were set up and he was the singer.
He also sang at neighborhood festivals and weddings. One day someone proposed to sing in the intermissions in a cinema, accompanied by piano, violin and drums, and was so debuted professionally in the cinema 2º Coliseo, Bernardo de Irigoyen and Venezuela. Later the company of Clemente Lococo, owner of a chain of cinemas, took him to work on a show that took place in the Astral cinema, along with figures including Armando Baliotti , Miguel Caló , Raúl Kaplún and a young pianist who was then 15 years old called René Cóspito .
