Sabrina Johnston (born Sabrina Marie Gillison) is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. Sabrina has a vocal range that is stylistically diverse and distinctive, transitioning smoothly from R&B to Soul and Pop. Sabrina expanded her potential and pushed the possibilities by writing, arranging and producing the songs that she recorded, as well as producing for other artists. The mid-80’s kicked off her career while touring and performing with the Sugar Hill Gang which led to the formation of West Street Mob, which she was a member of until returning to New York as a Backup Vocalist at Studio 56 for artists including Melba Moore, Evelyn Champagne King, Freddie Jackson, David Grant, as well as many others. While recording at Studio 56 Sabrina recorded her first solo “Don’t Keep Me Waiting” under the Pseudonym Tia Monae. During this time, Sabrina met Michael Wooten who wrote, produced, and composed “Dearest Dear” which Sabrina recorded as a duet with Jimi Tunnell. Sabrina made many connections while at Studio 56, including Studio Engineer Ken Johnston, who was also the engineer for Producer Jellybean Benitez. Sabrina and Ken Johnston eventually married, forming a powerhouse musical combination. The Johnston’s started their own label, Perfect Pair Records which was followed by their own recording studio by the same name. The self-penned, gospel-tinged (dance/urban) hit single “Peace” Published under Perfect Pair was the first release from Sabrina’s debut album Peace in 1992 with the lead single "Peace" reaching the #1 Billboard spot for 5 weeks in the UK and 3 weeks in the United States. Further singles "Friendship" and "I Wanna Sing" followed with positive reactions on Billboard’s Top 100 and the Dance/Club followers and fan-base. In the same year, Sabrina appeared on the Red-Hot Organizations dance compilation album Red Hot + Dance contributing an original track "Peace (Nu-Mix)" to raise awareness and money in support of the AIDS epidemic. In 1995 Sabrina teamed up with Sphinx for the #1 Billboard Single “What Hope Have I” which remained at the top position for 6 weeks. Sabrina followed up the success of “What Hope Have I” with the self-penned “Free Gay & Happy” which she recorded and released under the Pseudonym Coming Out Crew which was released on the Perfect Pair label. A second album, Sabrina was released in 1996 in Japan and again in 1998 in the United States, under the title Yum Yum which brought on the release of the single "Reasons". Sabrina made an appearance as a backing vocalist on Lauryn Hill's "To Zion" from the 1998 Grammy Winning Album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Ken Johnston received the Grammy for Engineer of Lauryn Hill’s Album of the Year The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Sabrina has been a “Hot Pick” with many Grammy Award Winning Producers, such as Frankie Knuckles, Jerome Farley, Jr Vasquez, David Morales, and Brothers in Rhythm. Sabrina Johnston has been featured on over 112 Compilations, more than 185 Appearances on Various Remix Collections, and her vocals have been Featured in over 60 Singles and Mixes by Top Dance/House/Trance Genre Musicians. Sabrina Johnston released “Forever Dreamin” in February 2017 which includes 3 remixes by Australian Producer Paul Goodyear. Sabrina has not slowed down and continues to tour the Globe and performs in support of many causes including the LGBTQ Community.
