In 2012, John teamed up with a co-worker whom worked with Sony Music Entertainment and the hit television show The X Factor USA, where he was introduced to bands and artists such as One Direction, Pharrell Williams, Pitbull, and Sam Smith. In November 2013, he signed a publishing contract with Big Deal Music and BMG Chrysalis.
