Gaetano Nasillo obtained a cello diploma at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan under the teaching of Rocco Filippini, with whom he later attended classes at the Accademia W. Stauffer in Cremona. After conducting a concert activity with the most prominent contemporary music groups and in the main Milanese orchestras, he dedicated himself to the study of the performance on the instruments of time, associating with the cello, the study of the viola da gamba, which he perfected at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Paolo Pandolfo.
He collaborates especially as a soloist with the most prestigious European ensembles including Ensemble 415, Concerto Vocale (conducted by René Jacobs), Zefiro, the J. Joachim Quartet, The Concert des Nations (conducted by Jordi Savall), the Ensemble Aurora, and with whom he regularly performs in concerts throughout Europe, the United States, South America and Australia.
Gaetano Nasillo's record production currently includes some 60 titles, most of which have won the most important record awards: "Diapason d'Or" for Muffat's Armonico Tributo, with Ensemble 415 at Harmonia Mundi, the Orfeo de Monteverdi with Ensemble Elyma at K617, Cantatas by Conti with Ars Antiqua Austria; "10 de Répertoire" and the "Premio Vivaldi" award for Corelli Opus 5 transcribed for viola da gamba at Symphonia; "Preis der Deutsche Schallplattenkritik" for Invenzioni, op. 10 of Bonporti, at Harmonia mundi; "A di Amadeus" for L. Boccherini's cello sonatas at Symphonia, for Schuster's Quartet Padovani at Symphonia, J. Bach's Musical Offering at Arcana, and the Invenzioni, opus 10 at Bonporti, at Harmonia Mundi.
His solo discography includes two volumes of Sonatas by Luigi Boccherini and Francesco Geminiani's Opus 5, which was inserted by Diapason in the list of "30 discs essential for cello". In 2004, Gaetano Nasillo began collaborating with the French label Zig-Zag Territoires for the recording of Sonatas for cello and basso continuo by Salvatore Lanzetti as well as with Nicola Porpora, N. Fiorenza and Leonardo Leo for Ensemble 415. Gaetano Nasillo's recordings have been published by Harmonia Mundi France, Symphonia, Teldec, Arcana, Ricordi, K617, Ambrosia, Zig-Zag Territories, Alpha, Christophorus, Nuova Era, Bongiovanni, Stradivarius, Tactus. He has also recorded with major European and American radio and television.
Gaetano Nasillo teaches Baroque cello at the Accademia Internazionale della Musica (previously the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano) and at the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory in Palermo. He regularly teaches in various prestigious institutions such as the International Festival of Musica Antigua de Daroca (Spain), the Oficina de Musica de Curitiba, the international courses of the Fondazione for Musica Antica di Urbino (Italy), the Scuola di Musica de Fiesole, the Fondazione G. Cini of Venice and the Centro di Musica Antica della Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini.
He plays a Giuseppe Ungarini cello made in 1750.
