A side-project formed by members of Ophthalamia, Dark Funeral and Hypocrisy.

The band had to change their name to Total War in 2001 because another band of the same name already existed. The only release under the new name was a compilation, consisting of most of the songs from the two previous records released under the name War.

War participated in the Bathory tribute "In Conspiracy With Satan" released by Hellspawn/No Fashion Records in 1998, covering the song "War."
