Ida Sand was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1977 into a musical family. Her father Staffan was an opera singer with the Royal Swedish Opera and her mother Christina worked as a church musician. Surrounded by music it was no surprise that she started to sing and play the piano from an early age. Even though her mother gave piano lessons to others in their house, Ida never allowed her mum to teach her how to play “properly”, Ida instead secretly played by ear what the other students had been taught after they had gone home.
At the age of 8, Ida started to take cello lessons. She never felt that the cello was “her instrument” and stopped by the age of 14. She had though, continued to play piano and sing at “every woken moment when not in school” (well according to Ida’s parents!).
In 1996, at the age of 18, Ida moved to Gothenburg to start her full time music education. Once graduated she immediately started to freelance as a singer/musician and continued to live in Gothenburg for 6 years. After Ida had moved back to Stockholm, her career as a backing-singer and keyboard-player took on pace. She worked with some of Sweden’s most beloved artist like Carola, Bo Sundström, Jerry Williams, Christian Walz, Lisa Nilsson and Orup, among others.
In 2005 she received a phone call from Germany. It was from the well renowned jazz label ACT with Mr Siegfried Loch the founder and owner on the other end. He had heard a demo that was sent to him by a friend of Ida’s and was interested in her music and wanted to take her to a meeting with another ACT artist, Nils Landgren. This was the first of many collaborations with Nils. Ida first appearing on ACT was on Nils’ first Christmas album ”Christmas with my friends”. Ida’s debut solo album “Meet me around midnight” was then released in 2007 and both critics and public took Ida to their hearts instantly.
Ida has continued since then, to be a part of the jazz and blues scene in both Germany and Sweden.
