Jean-François Bonnel, born June 5, 1959 in Gien (Loiret) is a French jazz musician.
Biography
The son of a music lover, he studied piano and clarinet at the Conservatory of Montpellier and at the Conservatory of Aix in Provence where he has being taught jazz since 1987 (he received his jazz professor of state diploma in 1990).
He received the Award of the Academy Sidney Bechet jazz in 1984 and in 2000 and the Gold Medal in 1985 for clarinet.
In 1977, Jean-François Bonnel participated in jazz bands in Montpellier: Fox Troc, Hot Cevennes, wind Bolshevik, Cossi anatz. From 1979 to 1989 he co-founded the Hot Antic Jazz Band with who he made many concerts and tours abroad (Edinburgh, Breda, Sacramento, Denver, Carnegie Hall in New York).
In 2010, he collaborated in CD record "Cécile McLorin Salvant and JF Bonnel Paris Quintet" (Cécile McLorin Salvant was his student at the Conservatory in 2008-2011).
in 2011 he decided to start JFB's New Quartet, a more personal project where he could fully express himself on clarinet, and propose its original arrangements, accompanied by a rhythmic young musicians met in its class Jazz d 'Aix-en-Provence (Hunot Félix Olivier Lalauze, Stéphane "Zef" Richard).
