Artist Biography Available in: Oliver Darley grew up on the outskirts of london and amidst the clanging and clatter from an early age surrounded himself with a growing collection of old and treasured vinyl, garnered from many trips to charity shops on a ridiculous bike with a basket on the back. Listening became singing and his voice developed to a point where, once heard, it was described by the late Ray Charles as "a voice that could sing the angels to sleep and wake the devil from his bed!" and if there's one thing a devil loves, it's a lie-in Having found his voice Darley began performing at gigs around the country and very soon found himself flying to America following a call to work with the legendary producer Arif Mardin on one of his last albums. It was that trip and the close relationship with Mardin that ignited the desire to write songs... so i came back to london and decided to leave everything i knew here - took a plane to dublin, bought a guitar and shut myself away with no phone to scribble as furiously as i could. It was a wonderful and mad time, growing a beard away from friends and family, wandering in out of the rain to unknown pubs on streets i could never find again to hear stories that would make you cry with delight and back in my room the songs began to appear, i guess aptly under the working title of "The Castaway"... I hope they can begin to mean as much to you as they do to me...
