Sound of the Sirens is a foot-stomping, crowd-engaging female folk/rock duo whose strengths lie in their passion and chemistry. These girls know how to rock a stage, and have the ability to make you believe in every word they sing. Individually, their voices tell their own tale but when blended together their harmonies leave the listener wanting more. The versatility of each original song is a responsive rollercoaster, stealing your attention, creating a furious arm’s in the air festival-vibe that sticks in your head for days. Woven with just enough haunting melancholy to silence an audience; the bitter-sweet lyrics stir the soul with a performance that needs to be experienced live. Abbe Martin and Hannah Wood are a fervent talent who have coined the contagious Siren sound.
Their album A Long Way To Fall (recorded live at State of The Ark Studios – owned by Grammy award winning, Terry Britten) captures the energy and song writing ability of the girls, while their four track EP recorded at Monnow Valley Studios has a slightly more produced sound, giving a taste of how their music could sound with a full session band.
There are now further CDs recorded and available for purchase from the website as physical copies or downloads.
2015 saw the release of All We Have Is Time – the Sirens latest album. Once again they have managed to encompass real sentiment, mixing the feel-good summer months in track, Together Alone and complementing it with the darker, earthier track, Confession.
The duo’s audience rely not only on the energy and diversity of the music, but also on the chemistry between Abbe and Hannah on stage. They’re witty and sincere, and it’s this very quality of down-to- engagement and communication during performance’s, that has seen their popularity rise substantially over the last five years – they actually have a remarkable symbiosis with every fan.
Gig’s are varied internationally and performed at festivals/bars/music venues, and in 2013 they were awarded Best Acoustic Act for the South West Music Awards. 2014 brought them some fantastic support slots, playing many well-established festivals such as Boardmasters – Looe Festival and Leopallooza. Their dedication and consistency has earned them a well-deserved, strong and loyal fan base, and, with regular airplay on Tom Robinson’s show – Radio 6, Radio Devon and BBC introducing in Devon, it means they are gaining fans daily due to the Sirens hard work and commitment to their supporters.
At the 2014 London Acoustic Show – Freshman Guitars took an interest in them and offered endorsement. Both are extremely honoured and proud of the continued sponsor by Freshman to date, which has seen them join other endorsed artists: Ben Howard and Hudson Taylor. In 2015 they were invited to Frankfurt Musikmesse where Elixir Strings and Richter Guitar Straps were seduced by the ‘Siren Sound’ and joined Freshman in endorsing the band.
Media interest is rapidly growing after a recent, live performance on Chris Evans Radio 2 Breakfast Show, and offers of high-profile gigs at Glastonbury (2015), Carfest North and South (2015 Main Stage) are quickly becoming standard.
Abbe and Hannah are an enigmatic and tangible act who will to continue to write, perform, record and evolve with a truly genuine attitude to an industry they love.
It’s easy to see why they continue to rise, and why they have such a unique following.
