No One Does It Better
Music Video LinksArtist BiographyAvailable in:
soulDecision was a Canadian pop band active from 1993 to 2005, best known for their hit single "Faded".
Career:
The group was formed in Vancouver under the original name 'Indecision' by singer and multi-instrumentalist Trevor Guthrie, singer David Bowman, and keyboard player Ken Lewko, who was studying music together at Capilano College. Before signing a record deal, they released a couple of singles that received national top 40 radio airplay. The success of those singles led them to a record deal with Universal Music. However, due to naming conflicts, they had to change their name from Indecision, a requirement they were unhappy with; they in fact, allowed their manager, Garry Francis, to choose the new name soulDecision. Although launched at the height of the boy band era, soulDecision was not a boy band, as they wrote their music and played their instruments.
No One Does It Better:
The group's first studio album entitled No One Does It Better was recorded in Velvet Sound Studios in Sydney, Australia, and released on February 22, 2000, in Canada. The album's single "Faded", an uptempo pop tune mixed with R&B and featuring a rap sequence by Thrust, was a hit in Canada, reaching number one on the country's singles chart. It also reached number 22 in the U.S. The follow-up, "Ooh It's Kinda Crazy" also reached number one in Canada, and at one time became the number one request on MTV's Total Request Live. No One Does It Better sold over one million copies worldwide.
In the wake of this album's success, they toured with Christina Aguilera on the Canadian and American legs of her North American "Genie In A Bottle" tour. Also opened for *N SYNC, Destiny's Child, and JAY-Z among others.
Shady Satin Drug:
soulDecision released their second album Shady Satin Drug on October 26, 2004. From the album, the group released the singles "Cadillac Dress", "Kiss the Walls" and "Hypnotize", all of which received steady airplay on Canadian Top 40 radio. However, due to the lack of support from the Canadian music industry, less than 2000 copies were printed.
Shortly before the release of Shady Satin Drug, David Bowman decided to part ways with soulDecision and start his band Seven Lies. The band added the original touring lineup, guitarist James Reid, bass player Tino Zolfo, and drummer Terepai Richmond to the mix.
However, after an across-country Canadian tour in 2005, Trevor Guthrie took a break from soulDecision to write and record his first solo record.
