Thomas Binkley is an American musicologist and lutenist who contributed to the rediscovery of medieval music in the 1970s, notably with the musical ensemble Studio der frühen Musik .
Biography :
He was born on 26 décembre 1931in Cleveland , Ohio . He studied music and musicology in Colorado , Illinois, and Munich , Germany . It was in this city that he founded the Studio der frühen Musik in 1959 , alongside Andrea von Ramm, Sterling Jones and Richard Levitt. In 1973 he took charge of a training program for medieval music at the Schola Cantorum in Basel and from 1979 headed the Early Music Institute at Indiana University (Bloomington) . He died on28 avril 1995 in Bloomington.
