Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon flag icon
Gabrielle is a Norwegian singer, artist, and songwriter. She is known for being behind many hits and has been called the queen of pop music in Norway. Her music is a combination of R&B-like vocals, hard electronic music, and strong lyrics in Norwegian. She sings in a Bergen dialect, and her lyrics reflect her life. Gabrielle’s persona is a mix of diva and rebel, making her a unique artist.

Gabrielle was born and raised in Bergen, where she has a background in gospel choirs. She was a semifinalist in Idol in 2006 and placed seventh in X Factor in 2009. Gabrielle signed with Universal Music in 2011 and released her debut single, "Ring meg," that same year, which topped the VG-lista and achieved tenfold platinum status for sales and streaming. Her debut album, Mildt sagt, was released in 2012.

In 2014, Gabrielle was awarded the TONO Composer Prize/Edvard Prize in the popular music category for her EP Nattergal – Kap 1. She has been nominated for eight Spellemannprizes: twice for Song of the Year (5 fine frøkner, 2014; Ring meg, 2011), for Pop Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Album of the Year (Vekk meg opp, 2017; Snart, Gabby, 2019), for Innovator of the Year (2011), and for Newcomer of the Year & GRAMO Scholarship (Mildt sagt, 2012). In 2014, Gabrielle was the only Norwegian contributor at the Nobel Concert, which honored Nobel Peace Prize winners Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi.

In 2015, Gabrielle received the Music Publishers’ Prize for Work of the Year (popular music) with "5 fine frøkner." This song became a hit in Sweden in 2016 thanks to its feature in the TV series Skam, and as of 2021, it has been streamed over 50 million times on Spotify. In 2020, she was again awarded the Music Publishers’ Prize for Work of the Year (popular music) with the song "Tenker på deg." Gabrielle played the role of “Jørgunn” in the comedy series Hjem til jul (2019) and Hjem til jul 2 (2020). The album Klipp meg i ti og lim meg sammen (2021) earned her Spellemannprize nominations in three categories: pop, songwriter of the year, and release of the year. She won the pop prize.

In May 2024, Gabrielle released Og eg lyger så det renner som en foss gjennom rommet.
