Academic Choir of Aarhus is an amateur choir characterized by ambition and professional dedication. The choir consists of 34 young singers of which many are associated with the musical life at and around the University of Aarhus and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. The choir was founded in 1985 and since the summer of 2005, Ole Faurschou has been the conductor of the choir.

Contemporary Danish and Scandinavian choral music are common themes in the repertoire, but a broad variety of genres are simultaneously treated, from the strict polyphonic music of the Renaissance through the intense emotionality of the 19th century music to first performances of works by Danish composers. Apart from working with an expressive and homogeneous sound, Academic Choir of Aarhus is conscious of its obligation to communicate the joy and delight engendered by music as an integral part of the listening experience.

Touring has always been an important part of the choir’s activities; either as concert tours or by participating in choir competitions all over Europe and abroad. In recent years Academic Choir of Aarhus has won prizes at competitions in Germany and China, and the choir has furthermore participated in two Danish competitions. In the spring of 2008 the choir was awarded the audience’s best at the competition Holmboe in Horsens, and in august 2009 the choir won the 1st prize in the category ‘mixed choirs’ at the 3rd International Choir Festival in Randers, Denmark.
