Hadouk Trio is a group of Ethno-jazz or World Jazz. Its members are:
Didier Malherbe: dudouk, flutes, ocarina, clarinet & soprano saxophone
Loy Ehrlich: hajouj: kora, sanza and keyboards
Steve Shehan: percussion (djembe, congas, darbuka, hadgini, udu, sanza, hang, "atmospheric bows")
Hadouk Trio was dedicated Best Training in the category "Artist or Instrumental Training" at the 2007 Jazz Victories of the Year.
History:
The name "Hadouk" is the contraction of the names of the two main instruments played respectively by Loy and Didier: Hajhouj (bass or African guembri) and Doudouk (Armenian oboe).
Didier Malherbe and Loy Ehrlich rub shoulders in the early 70's, within their respective groups, Gong and Crium Delirium, who crisscross the circuit MJC and sometimes share the poster of concerts and festivals. Began a long friendship that will end twenty years later to a regular collaboration, first on Malherbe records, then in 1996 with a duet album, Hadouk.
In parallel, the two artists work on the composition of a concept album which will be released in 1998 under the name of Desert Lands, in which Joël Grare will be percussion on two tracks.
The duo becomes a trio with the arrival of percussionist Steve Shehan, and becomes Hadouk Trio, author to date of 4 studio albums, Shamanimal (1999), Now (2003), Utopies (2006) and Air Hadouk (2010), as well as than several live.
In 2007, Hadouk Trio was rewarded with the trophy of "best formation of the year" during the Victoires du Jazz.
The trio becomes a quartet when the guitarist Eric Löhrer joins the band. The percussionist Jean-Luc Di Fraya replaces Steve Shehan. The first quartet album, Hadoukly Yours, was released in November 2013.
