Patrick O'Hearn is an American bassist / multi-instrumentalist and composer born in Los Angeles, California on September 6, 1954.
A pupil of Gary Peacock at Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts in the early 1970s, he moved to San Francisco in 1973, where he quickly became part of the San Francisco Bay Area music scene. with renowned artists such as Charles Lloyd, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon, Joe Pass, Woody Shaw, Eddie Henderson and Bobby Hutcherson, but also with young musicians of his generation: Terry Bozzio, Mark Isham and Peter Maunu. In 1976 he met Frank Zappa, where he became bassist for a little over two years. It was during this period that from acoustic bass to electric bass guitar he became interested in electronic musical instruments.
In 1979 he participated in the creation of the band Group 87 in the company of trumpeter Mark Isham and guitarist Peter Maunu.
In 1981 he was invited by Terry Bozzio, drummer and ex-musician Frank Zappa to join the group Missing Persons.
Since 1985 he has pursued a solo career.
