Imperium Dekadenz plays atmospheric Black Metal that combines dramatic, eagerly, epic and also cold melodies.
Out of the murky depths of the Black Forest rise IMPERIUM DEKADENZ. Those ancient German mountain woodlands bear their name for a reason. When winter falls upon the Black Forest, its steep peaks cover chasms and valleys with darkness and harsh frost. Even in summertime the sun does not reach every slope and it comes as no surprise that this rough and sinister environment gave birth to an equally sombre sound. Drummer Vespasian and singer Horaz create IMPERIUM DEKADENZ during late summer of the year 2004. The inspiration for their unusual choice of antique pseudonyms can also be found in their homeland: The Roman Empire took these territories from the Celts and occupied them until the Germanic tribes of the Alamanni claimed them as their own - often with fire and sword, consecrating the ground with blood.
As might be expected of two musicians sharing all instrumental duties and taking their artists' names from an ancient emperor and philosopher as well as a famed classical poet their interpretation of Black Metal follows an intelligent path right from the start. The duo's debut "…und die Welt ward kalt und leer" (2006) is hailed as a collection of paintings full of melancholy, drama and epic colours. Praised for their originality, songwriting and lyrics IMPERIUM DEKADENZ immediately reach the top regions German underground scene. Not content to rest on their laurels, the band soon returns with "Dämmerung der Szenarien" (2007). Their second full length proves to be another big step towards the dark peak. Critics and fans alike acknowledge the achievement of the Germans to emerge from the mighty shadow cast by Norwegian Black Metal on their own path towards epic structures imbued with downcast darkness, destructive rage and precious melodic interludes of fragile acoustic spider webs.
Far from reproducing the stereotypical political, religious or misanthropic themes of their extreme genre, IMPERIUM DEKADENZ clad metaphors of human transience, ashes, dust and shadows into an antique attire with a penchant for the Roman Empire. Taking inspiration from the harsh winter of early 2009 Horaz and Vespasian are driven once again to let anger, loneliness, destruction and despair flow into their highly atmospheric yet bleak music. In the murky narrow medieval passages of their hometown Villingen with its remaining city wall, spires and towers, biting frost and stinging gales IMPERIUM DEKADENZ bring their sound closer to perfection working on their third output. "Procella Vadens", the "Wanderer in the Storm" climbs to a new peak with ingeniously constructed multi-layered hymns plunged into the pure passion of ancient wrath and mournful melancholy. The duo feels driven by the forces of nature and music like a leaf in the wind, but remains determined to take action and fate in their own hands. The two Black Forest dwellers sign a deal with Season of Mist and with the help of guitarists Naavl and Kaelt supported by bassist Harvst present their works live as well. Gaining an excellent reputation as a live band and with outstandingly high reviews for "Procella Vadens" (2010) all over the world, IMPERIUM DEKADENZ are invited to many festivals the same year including the most prestigious Wacken Open Air. Listen carefully to "Procella Vadens" and witness a new empire of darkness rise!
