The mall that used to be about 5 miles from my house became the mall that is now barely one mile from my house, as I moved as a pre-teen from New Port Richey to Port Richey (a residential lot attached like a malignant tumor to the side of the county's industrial-commercial district). I didn't so much miss the crowded mall memories of the '90s, but the sparser still bustling and rarely vacant '00s version of this incredible place. It has somehow held on and is still technically open as we speak, but I bet the predictions of its official closure are about to hit. They've already salvaged its back parking lot and turned it into apartment condos.
I'm 29 and the mall I went to as a kid, teen, young adult, even last Christmas is still open yet every store I could think of going to is no longer there. Here's to watching the past smolder in real time.
