Coming onto the scene with one carefully crafted album after another, GUILD MERCHANT's release of "Heartless" instantly caught the eye of both listeners and our curation team. A texture that feels smooth, yet icy lays over top the sounds presented in this album, performed delicately with chops of jazz and lounge hand selected and cut apart by the artist.
Some selects from this album are truly transcendent, such as 'Reverie', which takes a deep dive even compared to the relaxed tone of the surrounding album. The sheer sink in tone that it provides works nicely in rolling the album towards its final few tracks.
While we find that the mood is most encapsulated in this track along with other standouts such as 'Void Reflection', each one is a complete standout and made much stronger when listened to along with the others as a whole. "Heartless" is most definitely meant to be experienced as a cohesive work, more than the sum of its parts.
