User Album Review
Rosetta have been one of the most consistent post-metal groups around despite an ever-shifting sound, always great but never quite transcendent. However, their latest, Utopioid, finds the Philly-based band creating their best work yet and a masterclass in haunting and beautiful post-metal. It’s also their most diverse effort; sparse atmospheric beauty is balanced expertly with mammoth-sized sludge riffing, although the ratio tends to skew more towards the beauty than the beast. The concept-driven work is a four-part song cycle that flows excellently, making for a truly outstanding listening experience. Honestly, despite some minor complaints, Utopioid may be one of the most enjoyable and transcendent listening experiences of the year. The sheer sonic beauty contained within this record is impressive. Fourteen years into their career, Rosetta have reached their creative peak.
