Ska: Cover It Up offers a snapshot of the second wave of third-wave ska-revivalists, which gives an idea of what kind of music is available on this compilation. Instead of offering real ska, it's a heavy, punky party-ready hybrid in the vein of Fishbone and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. For ska-revival fans, the metal will outweigh the ska, but there are a few bands, such as the Toasters, that demonstrate that some of these bands can actually tap into the true roots of ska.
