Candlebox's second album, Lucy, is not a great departure from their multi-platinum debut, yet it failed to duplicate the success of its predecessor. That's not a reflection of the quality of Lucy -- after all, it's pretty much the same as the first album. Candlebox basically is a conventional heavy metal band that has adopted the attitudes and musical styles of grunge without refashioning it into anything interesting, or more importantly, anything catchy. Throughout Lucy, there isn't any music that has any hooks or melody. It's clear that the band has strived to make their songs catchy, which makes the lack of hooks even more embarrassing. Without hooks, Candlebox has to rely on sheer sound to make the record effective; again, they fail to come up with anything powerful enough to forgive the lack of songs.
