William Smith „Bill“ Monroe [ˈbɪl mənˈɹoʊ] (* 13. September 1911 in Rosine, Kentucky; † 9. September 1996 in Springfield, Tennessee) war ein US-amerikanischer Countrysänger, Musiker und Komponist. Er gilt als "Father of Bluegrass" und war bekannt für seinen hohen Gesang und seine schnellen Soloeinlagen auf der Mandoline. In seiner 61 Jahre dauernden Karriere nahm er mehr als 500 Platten auf. Zwei seiner größten Hits sind Blue Moon of Kentucky und Kentucky Waltz.
