User Album Review
Bled White marks the band’s ninth studio album and fifth for The End, and this time they’ve pulled out all the stops: the inimitable Dan Swanö’s perfectly polished mix gives the album a big, commercial feel, not too far removed from his work on Bloodbath’s flawless Nightmares Made Flesh. Kuhr’s full-throated roars even echo Peter Tägtgren’s delivery at their deepest, adding a welcome edge and highlighting the proggy undertones on much of the album.
There’s a strong gothic feel to all of Novembers Doom’s material and their deeply personal, occasionally histrionic lyrics makes for an affecting listen. Bled White would be an excellent album to give to your younger cousin before bequeathing them your Candlemass and Paradise Lost records; it’s gateway doom, and there is something to be said for that. There's nothing wrong with accessibility, even when discussing metal’s more ostensibly extreme offshoots. Novembers Doom peddle sorrow rather than savagery, and this time around, they’ve done an admirable job of making that sale stick. --- pitchfork.com
