User Album Review
Sometimes less is more and the debut EP Pilots by Mallory Knox certainly works to this persuasion. It is hard for a potential audience to connect to an aspiring band without material being freely available, and this is the first attempt to bridge that gap on a national scale.
First track ‘Oceans’ is a blistering build of resined frustration that’s as eerily melodic as it is soothing. ‘Promises’ shows slightly more diversity from the band who don’t lose any points for sounding inconsistent. ‘Resuscitate’ is the track that sounds closest to Mallory Knox’s contemporaries, however it actually stands out as a track that is better in emotion and song writing ability than those they have taken the lead from. ‘q.o.d’ again is another stellar song that finishes this short EP. With the introduction of female vocals, it is broken up into atmospheric elation before delving back into a catchy as hell chorus.
To explain why this five song body of work deserves a 9 is simple; they are all stand-out tracks. Not a single one could be labeled as ‘filler’ like those which can be found on far too many of todays releases. If a full albums worth of this material was on offer; well then you’d probably be looking at the UK’s next alt rock kings. ---- ourzonemag.com
