Thomas Hammes , was born in 1978 in Osann - Monzel / Mosel. At the age of seven, he received his first trumpet lessons at the local Musikverein. In 1987, he moved to the Kreismusikschule Bernkastel - Wittlich, where he became a pupil of Nikoley Tchotchev (solo trumpeter of the Bulgarian State Opera). After first prizes at the national competition "Jugend musiziert" at the national and federal level, an invitation to the State Youth Orchestra Rhineland Palatinate followed. As a 15-year-old, he became a junior student of Prof. Peter Leiner at the University of Music and Theater in Saarbrücken. Since 1997 he is a member of the Landes Jugend Ensemble for New Music.
At the beginning of the winter semester of 1997, Thomas Hammes began studying orchestral music under Prof. Peter Leiner.
Since 1997 he played as a permanent assistant in the Radio Orchestra of the SWR in Kaiserslautern. He also worked as a substitute in the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Munich, the Munich Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra Hamburg, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the RSO Frankfurt, Philharmonic State Orchestra Halle, Vienna Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic.
In 1998 he was awarded a scholarship by the state foundation "Villa Musica".
Also followed in 1998, the appointment as a solo trumpeter in the European Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO).
In 1999, Thomas Hammes continued his education at the Herbert von Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, where he became a student of Martin Kretzer.
With the beginning of the season 1999/2000 followed by a permanent position as deputy solo trumpeter in the Munich Radio Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio.
Since the season 2001/2002 Thomas Hammes is now solo trumpeter in the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart under the direction of Sir Roger Norrington.

He is a guest in chamber music groups such as German Brass, London Brass,
HR Brass, Stuttgart Radio Brass, the Rennquintett and
Opera Brass Munich.
His entire musical career is documented by numerous radio recordings for SWR, BR, ORB, BBC London, Germany Radio Berlin, classical radio and television productions for SWR, NDR and ZDF.
As a concert soloist, he has performed with many well-known national and international orchestras. His chamber music partners include Albrecht Meyer, Boris Berzovsky, Richard Tognetti, Christian Schmitt and Julius Berger.
The first solo CDs with the Radio Orchestra of the SWR Kaiserslautern under the direction of Prof. Michael Luig, several CDs in the cast organ and trumpet with the organist Christian Schmitt and the world's first complete recording of all trumpet concerts by Giuseppe Torelli have been released.

In addition to a wide range of artistic activities, teaching is also an important part of masterclasses at institutions such as the Landesmusikakademie Rheinland - Pfalz, the Orchesterakademie NRW, the Sauerland Brasswind Workshop, the Saarland Saarbrücken Academy of Music, the Frankfurt Music Academy, the SWR Stuttgart Orchestra Academy and the regional foundation "Villa Musica",.
