The Orchestra Mozart is a young international orchestra of excellence created by Claudio Abbado, its conductor and artistic director for ten years, and it is a unique experience in the Italian context. The Orchestra Mozart built its identity involving famous soloists and principal players from renowned orchestras, joined by young talents from the entire world, creating opportunities for artists from different generations to meet and exchange knowledge and musical experience.
The Orchestra Mozart was founded in Bologna in 2004 as a special project of the Accademia Filarmonica, one of the most ancient and prestigious musical institution in Europe, from an idea by Carlo Maria Badini and Fabio Roversi-Monaco, with the decisive contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna. In 2014, the Orchestra interrupted its activities, after Maestro Abbado’s demise and in 2016, on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the Accademia Filarmonica, the campaign Orchestra Mozart Encore was launched to make the OM play again. The campaign involved more than 1000 donors during several events in Italy (Mantua, Rome, Milan, Bologna). In particular, two important concerts were realized in Bologna: Piazza Maggiore, July 5th 2016, in cooperation with the Cineteca di Bologna, and Biblioteca Salaborsa, December 13th 2016, in cooperation with the Municipality of Bologna, to strengthen the connection and the relationship between the Orchestra and its City.

Throughout ten years of activity, the Orchestra Mozart has played in the most important concert halls of Italy and Europe, primarily the Musikverein in Vienna and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and collaborated with important musical institutions such as: Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Ravenna Festival, Lucerne Festival, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salzburg Festival, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Palais de Beaux Arts in Brussels, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, National Concert Hall in Budapest. With Deutsche Grammophon the Orchestra Mozart has released several successful recordings.

The Orchestra Mozart’s productions featured some of the most world-acclaimed soloists, such as Martha Argerich, Alfred Brendel, Mario Brunello, Giuliano Carmignola, Enrico Dindo, Isabelle Faust, Hélène Grimaud, Natalia Gutman, Rachel Harnisch, Jonas Kaufmann, Julia Kleiter, Alexander Lonquich, Radu Lupu, Sara Mingardo, René Pape, Maria João Pires, Maurizio Pollini, Vadim Repin, Yuja Wang.

Besides its symphonic repertoire, the Orchestra Mozart has always cultivated a chamber music spirit, and since its first production, chamber music has always played a pivotal role in its activities. It’s in the nature of this ensemble to keep in mind a “chamber music approach” even in large-scale productions, characterized by reciprocal listening, hard work and experience-sharing. For this reason, the Orchestra activities always include chamber music concerts, proposing different ensembles, from trio to octet, and involving members of the Orchestra as Alessandro Carbonare, Guilhaume Santana, Jacques Zoon and other renowned artists as Guy Braunstein, Bruno Canino, Till Fellner, Ingrid Fliter.
