Elena Russo graduated at the Conservatory of Music G. Verdi in Milan. Later she attended baroque cello courses with M° Anner Bijlsma and Maestro Hidemi Suzuki.
She collaborated with the Piccolo Teatro di Milano as a cellist and music assistant in the project Faust directed by George Strelher.
Since 1991 she has been a steady cellist in the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico with which she has continuously performed in the most prestigious European concert halls (Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Philharmonie Berlin, Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall and Barbican Hall in London, Zurich Tonhalle, Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Oji Hall in Tokyo, Osaka Symphony Hall, Colon in Buenos Aires, etc.).
She also performed in the most important festivals in Italy, Europe, the USA, Japan, South America, Australia, collaborating with renowned soloists such as Cecilia Bartoli, Viktoria Mullova, C. Coin, Kem. Labèque, John Sollima, G. Carmignola, Danielle de Niese, etc. and recording CDs and DVDs for Teldec Classics, Decca, Naive, Opus 111, Arts.
In 2001 she founded the ensemble Bizzarrie Armoniche with whom she has recorded two CDs on female music composers of the '600 (Women for Opus 111 and the Baroque Revenge for the label of Austrian Radio ORF Alte Musik and Amadeus) and a third cd with the Rosary Sonatas of HIFBiber for the German label ARTS.
The Female baroque record scored 10 /10 in ClassiscToday (USA).
The record of the Rosary Sonatas was nominated finalist for the Midem Classics Awards 2009 in Cannes and was awarded best album of the year for the Baroque Music category and for the Supersonic prize Award in Luxembourg.
Since 2009 she has worked both as a cellist and as general manager for the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico directed by Giovanni Antonini.
She has also been teaching ensemble music for early, Renaissance and Baroque music instruments and voices at the Conservatory of Music V. Bellini in Palermo.
