Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
Signed to Virgin Music by Mark Dean, the man who discovered George Michael, Nick Wood has been composing and producing music since the age of 19. His creative relationship with longtime friend, Simon Le Bon, took off when the two collaborated on the soundtrack for the documentary film, Drum, in 1987. In 1988, the two established Syn in London. Following Nick's initial success in Japan writing hit songs for several Japanese pop idols, Nick and Simon relocated Syn' s headquarters to Tokyo in 1991. Over the past two decades, Nick has produced and composed scores for hundreds of commercials. In 2002, his hit single, Passion, the theme song for Kirin's `Love Sports` campaign, reached #1 on Japan's Oricon chart. Originally aired during the 2002 World Cup, Passion will be used again by Kirin during the 2006 Winter Olympics and World Cup. Nick has released several full-length albums on various labels, including Victor Entertainment (JVC), Sony Music Entertainment, Toshiba EMI, and Syn Records. In 2004, his single, Free, was pre installed on au/KDDI's stylish Talby phone, becoming the first soundtrack ever to be released for a mobile phone. Designed by Marc Newson, Talby also boasted ten ring tones produced by Nick. Fulfilling a long-term ambition, Nick has written the scores for several feature films. He composed the soundtrack of "Dream Island," a film directed by Wim Wenders, co-wrote the score for the Mario Van Peebles film,"Love Kills," with Simon Le Bon, and wrote the soundtrack of "Coo," an animated film whose title song was sung by Julian Lennon. Nick has built an extensive network of well-known composers in Japan and worldwide with whom Syn interacts on a daily basis. Nick has been fortunate enough to work with such varied artists as Simon Le Bon, Dr. John, Robert Palmer, Julian Lennon, Stevie Salas, Van Dyke Parks, and Chris Corner. http://web.mac.com/nickwoodworld/
