User Album Review
Time passes and the titles reflect the changes in the character of the French troubadour. The lyrics of the songs are less idealistic, more mature. This is not surprising, especially since the municipal elections of 1989 brought him to the responsibility of mayor - listen to and read the lyrics of "Avec les gens de mon village". We all grow old, and the moment systematically comes when illusions fade away to make room for some different values, more pragmatic, more in line with what society expects from us.

As a result, we understand that the artist has become aware of the passing of time and this is verified through two titles. The first one is "A mi-chemin de l'existence", which denotes a certain pessimism, but where love remains in the center of its concerns. The tremolos are there, but the mood has changed, perhaps permanently. The song is however very pleasant. Then "40 ans" sounds very sweet, no impertinence and a lot of tenderness in the lyrics and the melody. He also remembers the time when money was not flowing in "Au temps du pain et de l'eau", the destiny was not more difficult. Every era has its happiness, you just have to know how to find it, which remains a permanent lesson of Yves DUTEIL's texts. The agile piano, in an almost baroque theme, precedes the orchestra in "L'autre côté", which depicts the Berlin Wall and the destinies of men. Very pretty and original. You can hear a distortion! But yes!

"Blessures d'enfance" attacks again a sensitive subject. But that will speak to all the parents in each of us. The tone is serious, but the taboos are gone with the years 2000 for the better. Society has to go through this, and even if Yves' text is not accusatory or even morbid, it has the merit of asking the question. This is what we need to progress. Without doubt the song to discover of this opus, undoubtedly less memorable than its predecessors.

And the journey is a recurrent theme, with often simple and naive descriptions, hence my first analogies with the customs officer Rousseau. Here he evokes the south west in "Le coeur en Aquitaine". The orchestration is pushed on "Retour d'Asie", the serious lyrics on adoption do not incite to the frank laughter or to the party, nor even to the romanticism, but the melody is beautiful. I feel however less there than before the so specific paw of DUTEIL who leaves here its naive tremolos. Then "Bébé soleil" hits in a style that we know better with Julien CLERC or Philippe LAVIL... It is thus playful and without much relief, but it is allowed to listen. There are also the usual flashes of light, like "Les dates d'anniversaire", which joins the old themes treated by the Parisian poet. A little stiff however, I would have seen it more slow, with a bit more of the romanticism proper to the singer.

In my opinion the most average opus of Yves DUTEIL since his second, that dates! But god that it must be complicated to renew himself in his so particular niche. A few flashes of brilliance can be noticed with "Blessures d'enfance" and especially "L'autre côté". In any case, something to delight the fans.
