On June 14, 2012, she was introduced as the newest member of T-ARA. She made her official debut with the group on July 3, 2012 with the mini album Day by Day.
On April 7, 2013, it was announced Ahreum would debut as part of the group's sub-unit T-ARA N4. The group officially debuted on May 2 with the mini album Jeon Won Diary.
On July 10, MBK Entertainment announced Ahreum would be leaving the group in order to pursue a solo career. However, no solo activities ever came to fruition, and she terminated her contract with the agency in August 2014.
On August 14, 2017, it was announced Areum would be making her first public appearance in nearly four years through the survival show The Unit. She was eliminated in episode 10 after ranking 44th place.
In October 2021, Areum joined her second competitive survival show when she appeared on TV Chosun's Kookmin Singer. She was eventually eliminated but finished within the 'Top 111' ranks (ranks after 40 for individuals were not assigned).
On February 17, 2024, Areum revealed through an Instagram post that she will be soon be unveiling her first solo release. Additionally, she will also be having a fanmeeting.
