Born: October 12, 1975 - Lorenskog, Norway, the Norwegian mezzo-soprano, Marianne Beate Kielland, studied at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo, graduating in the spring of 2000.
Marianne Beate Kielland has quickly established herself as one of Norway’s foremost singer, and she regularly works with all Norwegian leading orchestras and festivals. She has worked with conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Daniel Reuss, Andreas Spering, Christoph Spering, Helmuth Rilling, Manfred Honeck, Claus Bantzer, Iona Brown, Ari Rasilainen, Joshua Rifkin, Harry Christophers, Edward Higginsbottom, Philip Pickett, and Helmut Müller-Brühl.
In the 2001-2002 season, Marianne Beate Kielland was a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater in Hannover. As a concert singer she has appeared in Germany, Austria, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Israel, Slovenia, Sweden, and the Baltic countries. She has sung concerts at the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, and with the Halle Philharmonic Orchestra. She has sung songs by Grieg in Münster, Germany, songs by Arnold Schoenberg at the festival in Bregenz, Austria, and W.A. Mozart and Salieri’s Requiem in France and Luxembourg. She has sung J.S. Bach's Cantatas in Cologne, and J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in Hamburg and in Cologne.
Marianne Beate Kielland has recorded Schubert’s Ständchen, and songs by Johannes Brahms and Dowland, as well as a CD with songs by the Norwegian composer Alf Hurum. In March 2002 she sang concerts, made a CD recording, and participated in a TV broadcast of J.S. Bach’s St. Mark Passion (BWV 247).
In the spring of 2003 Marianne Beate Kielland sang Bruckner’s Mass In F-Moll and Cantatas by J.S. Bach with Helmuth Rilling and the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, Schmidt’s Das Buch Mit Sieben Siegeln with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the conductor Manfred Honeck, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat (BWV 243) and St. Mark Passion (BWV 247) with the Norsk Barokkorkester, J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in Hamburg with the Hamburger Camerata and the conductor Claus Bantzer, J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in Cologne with the Kölner Kammerorchester and the conductor Helmut Müller-Brühl, as well as concerts at the Oslo Church Music Festival.
In the autumn of 2003 Marianne Beate Kielland sang Haydn’s Die Sieben Letzten Worte and W.A. Mozart's Requiem with the conductor Pierre Cao at the festival in Vézelay, France, George Frideric Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus in Narvik, Norway, Berlioz’ Les Nuits D'été in Harstad, J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232) in Bergen, G.F. Handel’s Messiah with the conductor Philip Pickett. She also recorded J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232) in Cologne with the conductor Helmut Müller-Brühl, and Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria with the conductor Edward Higginsbottom.
In the spring of 2004 Marianne Beate Kielland sang Felix Mendelssohn’s Paulus with the RIAS-Kammerchor in Berlin, Leipzig, Nantes, Poissy, Bilbao, and Lisbon, L.v. Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Collegium Vocale Gent and the conductor Philippe Herreweghe in Paris, Utrecht, and New York, G.B. Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and J.S. Bach’s Trauerode (BWV 198) as well as F. Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 - Lobgesang with the conductor Christoph Spering.
In the season 2004-2005, Marianne Beate Kielland will sing G.F. Handel’s Messiah in Berlin, Paris, and Amsterdam with the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin and the conductor Daniel Reuss, Cantatas by J.S. Bach in Weimar, Germany, with the conductor Joshua Rifkin, G. Mahler’s Das Lied Von Der Erde in Harstad, Norway, Cantatas BWV 127, BWV 159, and BWV 23 by J.S. Bach with Collegium Vocale Gent and the conductor Philippe Herreweghe, F. Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Kristiansund and Molde, Norway, J.S. Bach’s St. Mark Passion (BWV 247) in Luzern with the conductor Edward Higginsbottom, J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion (BWV 245) in Cologne and Paris with the conductor Helmut Müller-Brühl and the Kölner Kammerorchester, and L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra and the conductor Philippe Herreweghe. She also recorded a number of Cantatas by J.S. Bach with the conductor Helmut Müller-Brühl. Other recent engagements include J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) with the RIAS-Kammerchor Berlin in December 2005.
