Christian Willisohn (born January 22, 1962 in Munich ) is a German blues pianist and singer.
His musical career began in 1980 in Munich clubs; In 1986 he gave up his profession as a stonemason and sculptor. In 1987 he played with Zora Young for the first time in the US. Since then he has played with many international blues musicians. Today he performs throughout Europe with classics and original compositions with texts by his wife, Alexandra Mayer.
In 1988, the long-standing, ended only by their tragic illness cooperation with Lillian Boutté began . Since 1992 he has been collaborating with the Dutch saxophonist Boris Vanderlek. In 1995 he produced a textbook for blues & boogie piano with Prof. Herbert Wiedemann of the Berlin University of the Arts . In 1996 he founded the label Art By Heart with piano master builder Rainer Schmidt .
In 2003, he founded the success of the festival series with his appearance at the B & B Rhythm'n'Blues Festival in Halle (Westfalen) .
In 2008 and 2009 he accompanied the " Sea Cloud II " with concert tours from Hamburg to St. Petersburg, and from Naples to Venice. The band "Southern Spirit" formed around him in autumn 2010 with Boris van der Lek (saxophone), Titus Vollmer (guitar, vocal); Peter Kraus (drums, vocals), Matthias Engelhardt (bass).
He has the ability to use his music to bridge the gap between jazz and blues, classical music and other music. In interaction with his band and other musicians, he proves to be a good team player who likes to see, though his colleagues can shine.
