Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
Claudio Crismani is an amazing,
daring and magnetic artist.
With these words the US critic John Maxim closed his review for the magazine Music Life, a concert dedicated to music by Skrjabin played by Crismani. And in fact the musical world of the Russian composer has always been at the center of the pianist's artistic interests.
Crismani was born in Trieste and began his musical studies very young under the guidance of Maestro Andrea Giorgi. Later on between Andro and Claudio a fraternal friendship, artistic and human, was cemented, lasting for life. He continued his studies with Alessandro Costantinides for the piano and with Mario Bugamelli for the composition, graduating with full marks and honors from the Conservatory of Bolzano. He later perfected for five years in Warsaw under the guidance of Marguerite Kazuro. His international career began in Paris in 1979 with a recital at the "Salle Pleyel", and a series of radio and television recordings for "France Musique", playing since then throughout Europe, Russia, Israel, America, Japan and Australia and performing in the most important concert halls. He has collaborated with conductors such as James Lawrence Levine, Christoph von Dohnányi, and Thomas Sanderling playing with prestigious international orchestras, including: the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia orchestra, the European Community chamber orchestra, Les solistes de Moscou, Osaka symphony, Israel Philharmonic. In 1986 he was invited to commemorate the centenary of Liszt's death with twelve concerts in England performing the complete "Années de Pèlerinage" and transcriptions from works by Wagner. In 1987 the UNESCO proclaimed him "European Artist" and called him to perform at the "International Music Evening" at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. From the same year he is also "Guest Artist" of the Van Leer Foundation of Jerusalem, under the aegis of which he was co-founder of the Horowitz Festival. In the nineties, he performed three hours of the Poems and Piano Sonatas by Skrjabin, repeated several times in different countries. In these years an important collaborative friendship was born with the great Russian pianist Lazar Berman. For twelve years he has an exclusive role for RS, winning two Discographic Awards. His performance of the Skrjabin Piano Concerto with the London Philharmonic conducted by Thomas Sanderling, recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in London, is a true editorial success. After the concert tour held in 2002/2003 on the occasion of the thirty years of his artistic activity (one of the greatest pianists of his generation is defned), Claudio Crismani matures the decision to withdraw from the concert life to dedicate himself exclusively to a long period of study.
Since 2009, he has resumed a new series of concerts and recordings for the "Murdock Music Group".
