Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
With a fiddle in one hand and a guitar in the other, Cork based Clare Sands is a singer-songwriter, musician, composer, and music teacher whose time has come. Even at 24, her resume includes a burgeoning music career, a first class honours degree in Music & Italian, and several world medals representing Ireland in Karate.

Clare released her debut album ‘Join Me at The Table’ in October 2016 (Available worldwide on iTunes/CD Baby/ Website) to critical acclaim ‘Beautiful sounds’- RTE Radio 1. The album, entirely self-composed, is an eclectic mix of Blues/Folk/Jazz/Trad, recorded by musician and producer Christian Best of Monique Studios, Cork. The album was one of Clare’s personal highlights of 2017, as well as performing at Electric Picnic, Cork Opera House, and The National Concert Hall, and having her music featured on renowned radio shows.

With deep roots in Northern Ireland and County Wexford, Clare started playing the fiddle at the age of four, learning tunes from her father Seamus on a weekly basis while her mother Susan introduced her to the Blues. As well as playing Traditional Irish Music from an early age with different family members, Clare also trained classically on the violin. She soon found a love for song, and used whatever instruments that lay around the house like the guitar, the piano, the bodhrán or the mandolin to accompany herself.

Clare began songwriting in her teens and performed many of her early songs with Aisling Urwin, a songwriter/harpist hailing from Kenmare, Co. Kerry who toured with her in 2014 to promote Clare’s debut single, ‘Change Is A Comin’, playing prestigious venues around Ireland, Germany and Holland.

Today, she works as a full time musician combining live performance, composition, music teaching and music therapy, while still finding time to meet the demand for her talents as a session musician, playing and supporting various renowned artists; Luka Bloom, Jack L, Kris Drever, Mary Coughlan, Mick Flannery, John Spillane, Mundy, Anna Mitchell, Hank Wedel, to name a few. She continues to tour Ireland and Europe,
