Artist of the Year 2013 at the Swedish Folk & World Music Awards! Emilia Amper from Sweden is one of the leading nyckelharpa players in the world today and winner of the World Championships of Nyckelharpa 2010. In 2010 she also won the Norwegian Grammy Spellemannsprisen and was nominated for two American Grammy Awards for the album In folk style (2L) with the Trondheim Soloists and Gjermund Larsen. In 2013 she was nominated to both the Swedish Grammy, the Manifest Awards and Album of the Year at The Swedish Folk & World Music Awards for her solo debut Trollfågeln (BIS Records). She also won Artist of the Year and "Tvärspel" ("genre meeting", together with RESiDANS/Dans med vuxna) of the year at the Swedish Folk & World Music Awards 2013. In 2013 she was also awarded the NPU Prize from Swedish composer´s rights organisation SKAP and it's Nordic sister organisations and in 2014 she was awarded the Gyllene fjädern culture prize from Kalmar region's newspaper Barometern.
She possesses a deep knowledge and love for the Swedish traditional music and an open-minded passion to experiment, compose and meet new music and cultures. She has a broad musical background and education and has played with different Swedish and Nordic folk music groups and artists, and also with for example Persian classical musicians, flamenco, pop/rock and jazz musicians (such as Jon Lord from Deep Purple) and as a soloist with chamber orchestras like The Trondheim Soloists and Camerata Nordica.
Emilia has performed concerts in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, France, Belgium, UK, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Switzerland, Romania, Canada, the US, Brazil, Namibia, Gambia, China, India and Iran, and is also a popular teacher and dance musician in Sweden and abroad. Her musical passions are polskas, bowing techniques, expression and dance groove, and her style of playing has been described as dynamic, elegant and groovy.
In the spring of 2011 she finished her Nordic Master of Folkmusic degree, studying traditional music and ensemble playing in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. She is now working full time as a freelance musician in various ensembles and projects.
