Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
Inspecter 7's sound employs all three waves of Ska (Traditional, 2-Tone and 3rd Wave) and many outside influences spanning from Jazz to Oi!. This is easy to understand when you see the diverse line-up of band members, and easy to pick out when you hear their music. From hard stomping ragers to traditional instrumentals to swinging dance tunes, Inspecter 7's sound has something for every fan of Ska, and even those not so familiar with the music. A brief History... New Brunswick, NJ... the early 90's: A bastion for underground music lives in this unsuspecting town, be it Hard-core, Punk, Funk, Alternative, or Reggae... there is a definite absence of one particular type of music in the "Hub City" (and in NJ in general) - that music is Ska. Late 1992... a ragtag group of Mods and Ska enthusiasts gathered in the basement of the infamous "Gingerbread House" on Welton Street, to have some beers, to jam, and to add life to the dormant Jersey Ska scene. This led to the birth of Agent 86, who played their first show at the Brighton Bar, in Long Branch, NJ. Several years, line-up (and name) changes later, Inspecter 7 was born. For 2 years Inspecter 7's following consisted of area punks, rudies, skins and mods, as well as the regulars of New Brunswick's and Asbury Park's most prominent watering holes. Sunday May 15, 1994... Inspecter 7 kicked in the door of the New York City Ska scene when they played at Radical record's sold-out two day Oi! / Skampilation show at The Grand. This performance provided them with their first release - a live track recorded at the show. Inspecter 7 have since become the only band to have been featured on all three volumes of the Oi! / Skampilation series. Inspecter 7's music has since been included on several compilations on Moon Ska and Eyeball Records. Coincidentally, things not only began to take off for Inspecter 7 but also for Ska as a musical genre. 1995 and beyond... Inspecter 7 signed to NYC's Radical Records and began extensive east coast touring. They have shared the stage with Bad Manners, The Special Beat, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Business, Mephaskapheles, The Skatalites, and countless others. They toured nationally with Moon Recording artists The Skoidats and will be embarking on another national tour this spring. Last September, their full-length debut The Infamous hit the streets. The Infamous was produced by Thom Panunzio who has worked with such legends as The Revrend Horton Heat, U2, David Bowie, and Iggy Pop. The Alternative Press Magazine just earmarked Inspecter 7 as a band to watch in 1998 in their fabulous ska issue ... see you at the show.
