Artist Biography

Phace is the alias used by Florian Harres, an electronic music producer (electro, bass, drum & bass, dubstep, glitch etc.) and label owner from Hamburg, Germany. His sound can be described as atmospheric and powerful, imbued with deep cinematic flourishes, explosive energy, and human analog touch. He is known for his rhythmical experimentation, accompanied with deep twisted bass sounds, high contrasting ambience, and smooth flowing pad synthesisers. He has released music on Vision, Shogun Audio, Invisible, Virus Recordings, Lifted Music, Subtitles Music, Renegade Hardware, Neosignal, mau5trap and OWSLA (both with Phace's new project, Neosignal), among others. He has also collaborated with the popular drum and bass group Noisia on several occasions and he is also known for his precise and energetic sets. His constant touring has taken him to metropolises in all corners of the planet. The initial Phace project was started together with long-time friend Nicholas Ruoff in 2000. After early releases (on various labels) and touring, Phace got voted 'Best National Drum & Bass Producer and DJ' in 2006 (and again later in 2009 'Best National Producer') at Germany's Future Music Awards. Phace's breakthrough debut album Psycho was released on Subtitles Music in 2007. It trends within the neurofunk sub-genre of drum and bass and was voted Album of the Month in Mixmag. It garnered great support by international acts such as Andy C, Noisia, Pendulum, Goldie, Ed Rush & Optical and Friction. In 2008 Nicolas Ruoff decided to work in different fields and left the Phace project. With long-time friend Michael Braeuninger, more widely known as Misanthrop, Phace and Misanthrop teamed up to create the record label Neosignal, in 2008. This establishment was followed by the release of Phace's second worldly acclaimed album, From Deep Space, in 2010, accompanied with several singles. After a worldwide album tour in 2010, 2011 marked Phace & Misanthrop's return to the recorded realm on Neosignal Recording's set of singles, including the chart storming 'Desert Orgy' and the heavyweight Energy EP. Early 2012, Phace and Misanthrop decided to start a new electronic band project, also named Neosignal, to reach out into new fields of sound and music. This defined another cornerstone in Phace's career. In form of a remix for Noisia's "Stigma" released on Deadmau5's mau5trap Recordings in early 2012, the newly formed Neosignal band project found its first appearance. This was followed by a remix of Rockwell's "Childhood Memories" (featuring Kito & Sam Frank) on Shogun Audio, and by a remix of KOAN Sound's "Eastern Thug", released on Skrillex's OWSLA imprint.
