Proving that pop and independence are not mutually exclusive... and neither are commercial tunes and naughty guitars. The band's debut gig was with ¡Forward, Russia! (at guitarist/Leeds legend Whiskas' request) and they toured with Ginger from The Wildhearts for a couple of weeks, where they sold nearly 500 CDs and 1 tea bag. Ginger also took the band to support The Wildhearts at their 15th Anniversary Gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire in September 2008. Eureka Machines' debut album Do or Die ('power pop perfection... a dazzling debut - 4/5' - The Sun) was released on Yorkshire's indie stalwart Wrath Records on September 1st 2008 across the UK and Europe to favourable press reports, supported with a tour of the UK's favourite toilets. Plus, they opened 'Rock Day' on the BBC Introducing Stage at the 2008 Reading and Leeds festivals. And they've had airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 6Music, XFM and, bizarrely, Radio Rock in Italy. Not bad for a band who'd only been going a year. They capped off 2008 with a Christmas single, a special download-only version of 'Silent Night'. After an extensive January tour, original bassist Steve Morricone left the band amicably in February 2009 to concentrate on his other band, The Scaramanga Six. He was replaced by Pete Pseudonym, formerly of The Gushers. Eureka Machines released the single Everyone Loves You in April 2009, and followed it up with more tour dates throughout April and May. In Summer 2009 they played festival dates at Guilfest, Moor Music Festival, Wickerman Festival and Trashstock before releasing the single Being Good Is Okay, But Being Better's Better as a free download along with a new B-side.
