What We Will Be is not a question. It is a history--both personal and musical--of bedroom disarray, cheap beer and existential crisis. The heartthrob kick of "The Medicine" beats with the subtle percussive anxiety of The National's vast post-rock sweeps and marches. Primed for summertime backyards, "Green Street" delivers ripe Kiwi-pop jangles hitched to a roadtrip dashboard stomp, all strung together by the track's anthemic hook and raised fist yelps. "Don't Miss Me" sinks into blissful melancholy lo-fi, on the wavelength of Girls or Beat Happening's more tender moments. While Spirit Night's debut full-length spends a cursory half-hour looking back, the record promises that this band knows where they are headed.
