Artist Biography
OCCAM is the electronic solo project of Budapest-based instrumentalist Tibor Lázár. Tibor is probably best known as the drummer of Zagar (critics have called them the Radiohead of Eastern Europe) and as the drummer for Hungary’s most renowned hip-hop turntablist DJ Bootsie, and his live Quartet. Together with his bandmates, Tibor has produced two critically acclaimed albums, scored music for film and television including the American series CSI, reached the top 10 charts in Hungary, been nominated for an MTV European Music Awards, and received a Hungarian Recording Industry Fonogram Award in the category of Electronic Music. OCCAM is the electronic solo project of Budapest-based instrumentalist Tibor Lázár. Tibor is probably best known as the drummer of Zagar (a band at the forefront of the burgeoning Eastern European electronica scene for the last ten years) and as the drummer for Hungary’s most renowned hip-hop turntablist DJ Bootsie, and his live Quartet. After more than twenty years behind the drums and a fruitful career as a professional musician, Occam is poised to emerge and forge his identity as a fascinating solo artist. His debut album 'My Rorschach‘ is a record that explores the ethereal spaciousness between IDM, ambient, experimental and Jazz music.

All that Occam has imbibed during his musical career has been poured into his first solo compositions: minimal electronica, hip-hop, soul, salsa rhythms, jazz solos and ambient expressions. This mix of styles may initially seem overzealous, but Occam‘s 'Rorschach‘ is more than just a cavalcade of genres. The common thread through his music is delicacy, with very subtle elements of each influencing style, re-interpreted into a cinematic, velvety sound that is all his own. It presents the perpetual throb of electronic music, the tenacity of classical music, the neatness of jazz, and the avant-garde quest for new ways. The music is full of minute sound details: imagine a soft female voice embedded into meditative piano tones, the use of pulsing samples of noise as opposed to frantic drums, and misty reverberations rather than calculated tones. The spherical sound of the cobblestone streets of Eastern Europe permeates the entire album and echoes beautifully in its dub-delays.
