Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band formed in 1972 when veteran vocalist Alex Harvey teamed with struggling Glasgow group Tear Gas. Zal Cleminson (guitar), Hugh McKenna (keyboards), Chris Glen (bass) and Ted McKenna
(drums) gave the singer the uncultured power his uncompromising rasp required and were the perfect foil to the sense of drama he created.
There flamboyant brand of rock inspired a generation of bands and helped turn the 70s into music’s most outrageous decade. Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott said: “SAHB were phenomenal. I was such a big fan. Then recently I got to take them on tour and I sang Boston Tea Party with them.”
SAHB’s music has been covered by former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno, Nick Cave, and Mark Lanegan of Queens of the Stone Age.
Harvey delivered live shows between 1972 and 1977 that made them the biggest grossing live act in the UK.They’re best remembered for their 1975 cover of Tom Jones’ Delilah and follow-up Boston Tea Party but those who saw them with The Who, Slade and other giants of the time remember the live shows above all.
