GRAVEYARD BBQ is a southern metal band formed in Waltham, Massachusetts in 2003. They won the "Be a Guitar Hero" national contest to have their song "Cheat on the Church" ("Greatest Hits Volume 1") featured in the soundtrack of the PlayStation 2 video game Guitar Hero. They also have their songs, "The Clothes That Makes The Man", "Creamskull Boogie", "Ride the Stache", "By the Grace of the Grill", "Cheat on the Church", and the fan-inspired anthem, "BBQ NATION" ("Greatest Hits Volume II") featured on the popular video games, Rock Band 2 and Rock Band 3. After the release of their debut record, "Greatest Hits Volume 1" they replaced original frontman, "Reverand Brixx" with "Howlin' Jack Boone" who's lead vocals are featured on the band's follow up and highly praised release, "Greatest Hits Volume II". They have performed at the annual Boston Freedom Rally (Hempfest) 4 times (from 2006–2009), and headlined the event in 2008, and 2009. While touring the U.S in 2009, they won the High Times Magazine "Best New Underground Artist" Doobie Award during South by Southwest in Austin,TX.
Their self-proclaimed sound is a style coined by vocalist "Brownbag Johnson". They call their sound "a unique blend of 'old school Delta country blues, penetrated by monstrous and sleazy guitar riffs, electrifying slide-guitar, thunderous bass and drums, powerful, gritty, and sinister vocals, fronted by a rebel rock attitude that boasts sex, booze, and rock 'n roll.'" Their lyrical content frequently contains twisted humor, with occasional serious themes. They have self-proclaimed themselves a dirtcore band.
The band calls their fans, the "BBQ Nation." "BBQ Nation" is also the title of a fan-inspired song, which features cameo vocal contributions from close friends and special members of the BBQ Nation. In 2008, the band filmed a music video for the song "BBQ Nation", along with "The Clothes That Makes The Man", and other music videos which can be viewed on YouTube.
